A profound study of mental health from the perspective of Tibetan Medicine

With special Guest from Qinghai University: Dr. Lhusham Gyal

Translated by Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo

A program specially designed for Tibetan Medicine students and those who participated in our previous course on Psychology and Tibetan Medicine

In modern times, more and more people are becoming aware that mental health is a vital part of our well-being and are interested in psychology and psychotherapy. Yet, how is mental health viewed in traditional healing systems?

Tibetan Medicine is a time-tested holistic science that works not only with the body but also on the levels of energy and mind. Therefore, bridging the gap between this ancient knowledge and modern psychology can help us gain profound insight and help in our healing.

For that reason, we are very excited to invite you to the in-depth 20-hour program “Mental Health in Tibetan Medicine” with our special guest, Dr. Lhusham Gyal, Professor and Scholar of Tibetan Medicine teaching at Qinghai University. This series of lectures will be translated from Tibetan by our dear Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo.

About Dr. Lhusham Gyal

Dr. Lhusham Gyal is a Tibetan Medicine Doctor, Professor, and Scholar of Tibetan Medicine teaching at Qinghai University for over 27 years. He has been teaching, researching, and conducting clinical work in Tibetan Medicine for 39 years. He published over 60 papers and authored more than 30 monographs and textbooks.

Dr. Gyal wrote a book “Tibetan Medicine Psychology,” a comprehensive and systematic study of psychology in the context of Tibetan culture and view. The book filled the gap between Tibetan Medicine and psychology in general and was recognized with awards such as the Qinghai Province Science and Technology Progress Award, the first China Tibetology Research Achievement Academic Paper Award (the highest award in the field of Tibetology), and the Silver Award at the Lhasa International Tibetan Medicine Academic Conference.

Dr. Lhusham Gyal is highly esteemed by our school, particularly within the 4-year Tibetan Medicine Program, due to our long-standing collaboration with him. During his visit to the US, he graciously agreed to present a series of talks on Tibetan Medicine and mental health.
