Kumar Kumari

The Tibetan Yoga for kids

Yoga is a positive and enriching practice in the growth stage of children. Through yoga, our children develop self-knowledgde, body awareness, strength, balance, coordination and flexibility, releasing states of anxiety, tension and stress, unfortunatelly very common issues in our times.

Kumar Kumari is a Yantra Yoga method dedicated to children, conceived and written by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu taking into account the physical size, energy and breathing of children. The peculiarity of Kumar Kumari is that it combines movements with breathing through the use of 10 syllables or sacred sounds, OM, A, HUM, 'A, A, HA , SHA, SA, MA and HAM to teach children how to breathe correctly.

For its extremely beneficial potential, Yantra Yoga for children is compared by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu to a 'great medicine', as the exercises can balance the functions of the five elements, regulate and strengthen the activities of the five pranas and all other aspects necessary to keep children healthy and ensure their seamless growth.

In these sessions you will learn:

  • What is Kumar Kumari, its origin and main characteristics.

  • Development of children, specially from 5 until 12 years old, according to Tibetan Medicine.

  • Capacity of the sound. How sound with breathing can help development of children.

  • Benefits of the 16 Kumar Kumari movements in children, according to Tibetan medicine.

Katya

I was so fortunate to meet the great Tibetan Master Namkhai Norbu 10 years ago. Everything I know about spirituality, awareness, and the nature of the world I learned from him. Among many precious teachings, He was also giving advice and methods for parents and children, based on traditional Tibetan medicine and Tibetan yoga. This is one of a kind opportunity to learn form the dedicated students of Rinpoche and experts in the fields of Tibetan Yantra Yoga and traditional Tibetan medicine. Kumar Kumari in the schools

Numerous experiences have recently demonstrated the usefulness and the benefits derived from the practice of Yoga in the school context. Thanks to Yoga, in fact, students feel more energetic, but also relaxed, favoring a positive atmosphere for children and teachers in classes. Many schools, both in Italy and abroad, offer this kind of extracurricular activities as part of their programs.

“Experiences with small and large groups of children in schools and recreational contexts have been extremely positive, the children enjoy doing the practice and learn to pay more attention in everything they do. This in turn boosts their self confidence and makes them more conscious, aware and considerate of others. Since the regular practice of Kumar Kumari also improves memory and mental clarity, teachers and caregivers appreciate it as a highly constructive activity that encourages the harmonious development of children’s personalities. The poetic name of Kumar Kumari, The Garland of Lotus Flowers, also reflects the joyful interaction that arises when children practice together in a circle”

Tibetan Medicine

A traditional & complete holistic health system

Traditional Tibetan Medicine is an ancient system of healing that represents the base and the context that informed Yantra Yoga. This is why a general overview of the principles of Tibetan Medicine will make it easier to better understand why this ancient Yoga system is more than a temporary healing practice since it can also lead to long term health.

Tibetan Medicine is based on the theory of the Five Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. The first four elements are like the material basis and the Space element is like empty energy providing room for the other elements to develop. According to Tibetan medicine this is how our body is composed. To maintain a healthy body these five elements need to work together.

The Wind element and its various functions is particularly important for understanding the physical, energetic and mental benefits of a correct breathing practice since it represents the moving energy of our body deeply connected to the breath, nervous system and to our mental activity. In traditional Tibetan medicine, Yantra Yoga has been used as an effective method to heal and prevent the disturbances of the Wind element.

Traditional Tibetan medicine, with its precious medical knowledge of almost 4,000 years of history, offers a clear understanding of how this ancient Tibetan Yoga of breath, rhythm and movement works in the healing context as an effective tool to increase the general level of well-being and to prevent from chronic health conditions that affect our body, our emotions and our mind.
