Training the body with the Tsigjong
Yantra Yoga & Tibetan Medicine Courses
With Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo and Laura Evangelisti
In this course, we will study and practice the Tsigjong, the first preliminary series of Yantra Yoga. After the Tsigjong, comes the Lungsang; 8 movements to purify the breath and balance the energy, followed by the Tsadul; the 5 movements to balance the subtle energies and control the channels.
The Tibetan word Tsigjong is a compound consisting of tsig, meaning ¨joints¨ and jong, ¨training¨. According to Tibetan medicine, we have twelve major joints in the body and 250 minor joints, and their predominant elements are earth and water. Also will explain how important our joints' health is and how it reflects in our overall health.
The function of this series is very important, it releases tension on the major and minor joints of the body, helps unblock them, and in turn, has a revitalizing, reenergizing effect. Regarding the Yantra Yoga practice, we consider the Tsigjong the ¨ warm-ups ¨ both for the body and the breathing, creating a base for the following practices.
For those who might find difficulties in some of the movements and want to try a softer way to practice, you will also learn the ‘On the Chair’ variations of these exercises, which are also an ideal routine to be practiced at the office!
All this will be accompanied by the vast ancient knowledge of Tibetan Medicine, which explains how each exercise works at the level of the body and the subtle energy and why these practices are so beneficial for your overall health, both to prevent and support the healing treatments of diseases. Dr. Phuntsog will be also answering your questions in most of the zoom meetings, regarding the Tsigjong practice and joint health.
This course welcomes everyone - seasoned yoga and wellness practitioners or beginners, people that didn’t practice any form of movement practice. No previous experience is necessary! You will want to join this online course if:

"If we keep our joints healthy, our whole body is healthy" Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo
“Yantra Yoga is a particularly effective means for using our breathing to tonify, rebalance and heal. Originally a secret practice of yogic adepts, this ancient system has much to offer as a method of healing and development that we can all use in daily life. Each exercise is associated with specific beneficial effects relating either to concrete aspects of the body or the three humors and five elements.” Healing with Yantra Yoga, p.28
Traditional Tibetan Medicine is an ancient system of healing that represents the base and the context that informed Yantra Yoga. This is why a general overview of the principles of Tibetan Medicine will make it easier to better understand why this ancient Yoga system is more than a temporary healing practice since it can also lead to long term health.
Tibetan Medicine is based on the theory of the Five Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. The first four elements are like the material basis and the Space element is like empty energy providing room for the other elements to develop. According to Tibetan medicine this is how our body is composed. To maintain a healthy body these five elements need to work together.
The Wind element and its various functions is particularly important for understanding the physical, energetic and mental benefits of a correct breathing practice since it represents the moving energy of our body deeply connected to the breath, nervous system and to our mental activity. In traditional Tibetan medicine, Yantra Yoga has been used as an effective method to heal and prevent the disturbances of the Wind element.
